[daily] G’day Melbourne. Nice to meet you.

It has been a week since I have moved to Melbourne. What can I say about this place. My first impression about it was…..it looks and feels a lot like Seattle. The buildings, the people, the vibe is very Seattle like.

How are they similar? Well, the both have….a large art and music scene, hipsters, strange looking museums, beautiful libraries, unique statues/art pieces, green eco-friendly ideas, international crowd, microbrews, winos, great coffee, fresh markets and foodie culture.

Great, bright street art.

But there are things that are uniquely Melbourne/Australia….I don’t really know if they go hand in hand but this is what I have noticed.

Really?

Really?

Burger King….No such thing….it’s called HUNGRY JACK’S…..wtf?

Short shorts…not just for women….but also very common for the hunky big muscular men to wear.

Penguins at St. Kilda Beach. It was dark out....

Penguins….not in the zoos….they are on the beaches.

Coffee….for under 2 dollars?….nope….try around 3.50 for a cup of “long black” (drip coffee)

Being fancy in Melbourne with a $17 dessert...yup.

Not only coffee but everything here is expensive. $8 for a bottle of beer, $12 for a gyro, $19 for a movie.

I am surprised though…I still have some of my $500 AUD that I started out with….but really…it has only been one week.

That is it for now….more later.

cheers and happy traveling.

mao.
