[daily] day 24: OTD does Australian Open

BEST DAY IN MELBOURNE HANDS DOWN. (well….i’ve only been here for a month and a couple of days….but still)

  • Participated in a flash mob (see previous post). Awesome.
  • Got into the Australian Open for free.
  • Enjoyed the Men’s doubles semi-finals with the Bryan Brothers (Mikey and Bobby) from the US of A.
  • Got Mikey and Bobby’s autographs on the tennis ball that I got during the flash mob.
  • A nice 5 second conversation with both Mikey and Bobby….we are on first name basis now.

Refreshments.

  • Won a free wine glass (it was made out of plastic though)
  • The Serna and Sloane match on a big screen out in the sun.
  • Sarah and I cried….because Serna lost AND because Sloane won.
  • Drooled while witnessing Djokovic, Federer and Tsonga warm up during practice.
  • Saw a Junior Japanese tennis player get upset over a hard loss.
He was so close to winning too.....but bad sportsmanship.

  • Put too much hot sauce on my burrito….I gave it to Sarah to eat….she ran for water.
  • Saw Goran Ivanisevic, got his autograph….on my arm.
  • Gave up on going out to dance that night (best decision of the night)
  • Stayed and watched Federer and Tsonga on the big screen.
  • The match started at 7:30.
  • 9:15…..wrap myself in a rough synthetic fiber picnic blanket.
  • Couldn’t decide who to root for…the underdog or the favorite.
  • It got ridiculously cold….we decided to watch from the outside of the arena to warm up.

  • Started asking random people that were leaving if we could have their ticket to get into the arena.
  • No luck after three tries….
  • Two lovely ladies walking in their heels….our luck changed…..
  • We were graced with lanyards and at the end of those lanyards were tickets to get into the arena!
  • SCORE.
  • Ran to Door 1.
  • Walked in………and what do we know……………..
  • Sat 12 rows away from the court! Right in the middle of the baseline!
  • Surrounded by corporate employees…..sat in the Crown Hotel and Casino section.
  • Watched the rest of the game inside Rod Laver Arena.
  • Magical.

  • Tennis balls seemed to float…..spin…curve….jump……smash.
  • Rooted for both Federer and Tsonga…..depending on who was down in points.
  • Cheered as Federer won.
  • Gasped at the amount of people that fled the arena after the match.
  • Moved to the front row for Women’s doubles semi-finals.
  • Australia wins.
  • 1:30…..in the morning.
  • Tram ride to Sarah’s.
  • Indian food at 2:30.
  • Sleep is for the weak.

cheers and happy traveling.
