[travel] day 178: Mount Nemrut

“Hiking” up to the mountain. And enjoying the sunset and the sunrise. Worth the trip all the way to Mount Nemrut (Nemrut Dagi). We made this special trip out here because once Kyle saw the pictures of the ancient Gods on top of a mountain.

Was it worth it? MOST definitely. Not only did we get to visit the friendliest people on our way in Malatya, we also saw the sunrise as well as the sunset at Mount Nemrut.

We drove from Malatya to Gunnes Motel. Arrived in time for a quick nap and off we went to the top of the mountain….well….our driver drove up close to the mountain top and we trekked up towards the top in 5 minutes.

We almost had to pay $50 USD for using my tripod but after convincing the "security guard" we were let off the hook. At least we got one good picture out of it.

Saying goodbye to the sun.

Saying goodbye to the sun.

The challenge was waking up early enough to see the sunrise. There were 2 other couples staying at our motel. But as 3:30 am rolled around the next morning, it seemed like we were the only ones headed up towards the mountain.

After seeing a glorious sunset, waking up at 3:30 better be worth it. And it was indeed.

Hello Gorgeous.

Shining on with the moon.

Just what Kyle wanted to see.

If you go to Turkey….give yourself time to check out Mount Nemrut. Keep your mind open and take in all the glory.
